Getting the UK prepared for the challenges ahead – Key appointment announced for UK Resilience Academy

The UK Government’s Cabinet Office and Serco, the provider of services and support to the UK resilience community and governments internationally, are delighted to announce that Rosehanna Chowdhury has joined today (Monday 22 September) as the Chief Executive for the UK Resilience Academy (UKRA).

Rosehanna brings a wealth of experience in shaping national policy and has directed large-scale operations in national security, resilience and public policy. Most recently, she worked as Director for Resilience and Recovery at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government where she served as Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for some of the UK’s most high-profile national operations.

The appointment of a Chief Executive to the Academy follows its launch in April of this year. The UKRA is key to the delivery of the UK Government’s Resilience Action Plan: delivering training and education to resilience practitioners; professionalising resilience; and fostering greater collaboration across the resilience community.

Speaking about her new appointment today, Chief Executive of the UKRA, Rosehanna Chowdhury said: “I am honoured to be leading the UK Resilience Academy at such an exciting and critical time. The UK government has set out a clear ambition to strengthen national preparedness by investing in the systems, skills and leadership needed to respond and recover from the most serious risks with whole-of-society resilience at its core.

“The UK Resilience Academy plays a central role in delivering on that ambition, by equipping leaders at every level with the capabilities, insight and networks they need to lead through disruption and build long-term resilience. I am excited to work with partners across government, academia, the private and voluntary sector and communities to turn this vision into action and to help ensure the UK is better prepared, more connected, and more resilient for the challenges ahead.”

The Cabinet Office’s Deputy Director for the UK Resilience Academy, Fiona Gaffney, welcomed Rosehanna’s appointment, saying: “We look forward to working with Rosehanna and continuing to build momentum on the UKRA’s work to transform the skills and curriculum required to build resilience across the whole of society”.
